What is a Body Lift?
A body lift combines various procedures including a buttocks lift, thigh lift and tummy tuck to tighten the abdominal muscle wall and remove excess skin around the abdominal and belt area. The fat and skin above the belly button is then stretched down to the pubic area and sutured in place. A new opening is made to allow the belly button to be brought through, to its correct position. This procedure is generally performed after massive weight loss or child bearing which leaves the skin stretched and saggy which cannot be fixed by diet and exercise alone.
What Areas Does the Body Lift Target?
Abdominal area – locally or extending around the sides and into the lower back area
Buttocks that may be low, flat, or shaped unevenly
Groin that may sag into inner thigh
Thigh – the inner, outer, or posterior thigh, or the thigh’s circumference
Aging, sun damage, pregnancy, significant fluctuations in weight, and genetic factors may contribute to poor tissue elasticity that can result in sagging of the abdomen, buttocks and thighs.
Would I be a Candidate for a Body Lift?
Patients with significant amounts of loosened skin around the belt and lower abdomen are usually the best candidates for a body lift; both men and women can elect for this surgery. Alternatively, a ‘mommy lift’ is often recommended for women who are done having children and would like to restore their body back to a more youthful, pre-child bearing appearance. During a consultation, Dr Zimmerman will discuss the differences and which lift would best suit you individually.
What is the Recovery Like?
The recovery time for this procedure is longer than most other cosmetic procedures but often produces the most dramatic results. A minimum of 2 weeks of rest is required before returning to work, some patients elect for more time before going back. Strenuous physical activity is strictly prohibited within the first few weeks as the body heals, Dr Zimmerman will advise you on when it is okay to return to normal activity during follow up exams.
