The search for the ideal 'filler' of skin defects continues to evolve. We search for products that are safe to use, natural in appearance and feel and long lasting.
Zyderm or Zyplast:
These are injectable collagens, derived from bovine (cow) collagen, where it is purified, treated and processed into an injectable form. This remained the gold standard for years, until the production of injectable hyaluronic acids, called Restylane and Juvaderm.
Restylane and Juvaderm:
These products inject very smoothly with little discomfort, swelling or bruising so there is minimal post treatment recovery needed, and are excellent for filling fine lines and plumping up lips. One can expect about three to six months of improvement, and occasionally longer depending on how fast one body dissolves away the foreign material.
Radiesse:
For deeper creases and folds, Radiesse is the product of choice. Made from a hydroxyapetite material it provides excellent fill of deeper wrinkles and lasts in the neighborhood of nine months. A few days of swelling and bruising does occur after treatment.
Sculptra:
For areas requiring more diffuse volume, Sculptra, which promotes the body to produce more of its own collagen, is used. Often two injection sessions are performed about four weeks apart, with correction lasting well up to a year or more. Fat Injection is another alternative to provide fullness to facial areas as well as sculpt other areas of the body. Harvested from areas of excess, the fat is purified and re-injected into areas of need, with long-term correction achieved.
