Breast Augmentation, also known as breast enhancement, is a cosmetic procedure
designed to improve the appearance of the breast. It is extremely beneficial in women
with modest or underdeveloped breasts desiring an increase in cup size. Or in women,
who have lost the shape and fullness of the breast from age or child bearing, who want
to restore the fullness and firmness to the breasts that they once had. Dr. Zimmerman
strives to achieve a natural look that balances ones physique and compliments the
proportions of the rest of the body.
When considering breast augmentation there are surgical options to consider, which are
reviewed in great detail during the consultation with Dr. Zimmerman. Placement of the
implant either above or below the chest wall (pectoralis) muscle is the first option.
With the majority of implants used today being saline filled, the submuscular position
is usually favored in order to give the most natural appearance and feel to the breast,
while providing maximum protection against potential hardening of the breast (capsular contracture).

shaped (tear drop or pear shape), smooth and textured, saline and silicone. Implants are

Insertion of the implant can be achieved either through the crease beneath the breast,
or around the border of the areola, or through the apex of the armpit. Dr. Zimmerman performs
breast augmentation through a small 3 cm. incision. The surgical approach is decided according
to patient preference and surgeons recommendation of the optimal location to hide the scar
depending on the patients' anatomy.
Surgery is usually performed under intravenous sedation where the patient is asleep and
comfortable during the procedure without the need for intubation and without the risks and
side effects of general anesthesia. Breast augmentation is an exciting procedure available
to women who desire restoring their figure or enhancing their current appearance. This operation
must be individually tailored to the patient, taking into account the size and shape of the
